A popular and friendly Day Centre exclusively operated and funded by Age Concern, with limited assistance from the New Ash Green Parish Council and the kind co-operation of the New Ash Green Youth Centre Trustees. The Centre is situated in pleasant semi-rural surroundings in New Ash Green that gives retired clients a very warm welcome. An employed Cook / Organiser and / or very kind and unpaid Volunteers, create a lovely atmosphere at this Centre, which is very much enjoyed by all who attend. Inspections or Trial visits can readily be arranged.
Every Wednesday and Friday from about 9.00 a.m. to around 2.30 p.m., closed on Bank Holidays. The Age Concern Minibus service is available for transport to and from this Centre. Clients making their own way or using private transport are free to arrive and depart when they wish.
Proceeding south on Ash Road towards New Ash Green, travel straight on at the roundabout, at the junction of Ash Road, Chapel Wood Road and Farm Holt, and take the third turning left into North Street, turning left again after a few yards into the North Street Car Park. The Day Centre is located just off the right hand far corner of the car park, between the New Ash Green Infants School and the KCC County Library, about 80 yards from the Doctors Surgery, about 100 yards from the Health Centre, and 140 yards from the main New Ash Green Shopping Centre. The Day Centre address is, The Youth Centre, Ash Road, New Ash Green, Kent. DA3 8JY. Tel: 01474 872441. The ground is reasonably level with a slight flat slope on the front path into the Centre. Vehicle access is about 12 yards from entrance to Day Centre. New Ash Green Village is situated 2 miles from Longfield, 2 miles from West Kingsdown & 7 miles from Dartford.
A low cost 16-seat Mini-bus with full disabled access, full three-point seat belts, and all forward facing seats, which accommodates up to 2 wheelchairs - clamped during transit - is available for a full door to door service for clients. Clients are free to make their own arrangements to or from the Centre if they wish, and many existing clients live within walking distance if mobility allows. Volunteer Drivers can sometimes be arranged for clients at £1 + 35p per mile (for the volunteer's total mileage). Ample free all day car parking, including dedicated disabled parking bays, is available adjacent to the Day Centre. The area is served by public transport buses, No's 423 and 10, and the nearest railway station is 2 miles away at Longfield. The KCC door-to-door Dial a Ride service can be pre-booked on 0845 6006501 at fares set by KCC. Several small Taxi Firms operate within the area at reasonable cost.
The Centre can provide for frail or disabled clients who have a low or medium level of dependency, within a wide catchment area, such as in the New Ash Green, Ash, Hartley, New Barn, Longfield or West Kingsdown areas, etc. The low cost transport facility may be limited in some areas. Any elderly person who wishes to consider attending this Centre, or any other person or Agency on their behalf, should in the first instance contact Age Concern, whose details are shown on top of this page, or pop into the Centre on opening days. Following a short, informal client assessment, normally arranged within 7 days, clients will be advised further. Age Concern will then notify the client the date of their first attendance and, if applicable, details of any transport arrangements. If the Centre is full, client will be advised that they have been placed on a small waiting list, the estimated waiting time, and that they will be notified as soon as a vacancy becomes available. Other Age Concern Day Centres may also be available.
The Centre has full disabled access and facilities, with a hard smooth access road/path to the entrance doors. A Table and waitress service is provided for meals with strong comfortable chairs with upholstered seat and backs, of the dining chair type. The Centre allows clients to meet new people and make friends, Social games like Cards, Dominoes and Bingo, Raffles, Outings to Places of interest, Seasonal Events, Information & Access to other Age Concern Services, a Chiropody clinic is held at the Health Centre every second Wednesday, the County Library is next door, and the local Shopping Centre provides facilities such as Post Office, Chemists, Cafe, Supermarkets, Newsagent, Clothes Shop, etc. Admission & Refreshments are all free. On some days, Animal Charities and other concerns operate table sales. A varied menu of a fresh, home cooked, hot, two or three-course meal is available. [Current Prices] All Diets are catered for. Raffle tickets and Bingo cards are available at minor cost with nice prizes. Outings are arranged from time to time with clients paying a reduced cost per outing. New Ash Green village has numerous trees and landscaped gardens and is situated in a semi-rural area, surrounded by countryside, ideal for short or long walks or drives.
