We are a registered charity with very limited income. Many disabled and frail elderly clients depend on the services we provide and the primary manner in which we are able to achieve the level of service required, on the limited resources available, is by the very kind ongoing services of our many unpaid volunteers.
These volunteers are the essence of our organisation and permit us to provide a range and level of quality services to our clients that would otherwise simply not be possible.
We currently have volunteers working in every aspect of our services, such as in our office, charity shop, Day Centres, transport, community services, and Shop Mobility to name but some, and many of these volunteers have been with us for very many years. Our charity shop, for example, is staffed entirely by volunteers, enabling us to achieve the lowest overheads of any charity shop in the County, and thereby receive over 98% of shop income directly into our charity for the ongoing good work we do for and on behalf of our clients.
New volunteers are very much needed and are given a very warm welcome. Hours and days are available to suit the individual volunteer, from just one hour per fortnight to several days per week, the choice is yours. Additionally, a choice of locations and duties are available to every volunteer, such as helping out in the office, working in the charity shop, various duties in one of our Day Centres, acting as a receptionist at one of our Chiropody Clinics, or helping with bags and shopping on our Shop Mobility service. Whatever you would like to try, whatever skills or experience you may have or wish to use, we would endeavour to use them. The job satisfaction can be immense, knowing you are helping others less fortunate or able.
If you found after a short trial you were not keen on the duty allocated, we would be most happy to discuss with you available alternatives until you found a position you enjoyed and were comfortable with. We have a most happy bunch of staff and volunteers and you would be made most welcome. Any essential expenses incurred would be paid by prior arrangement.
You would undergo a short induction period by friendly staff or volunteers as applicable to enable you to perform any required duties and to ensure your safety and well-being, and our general insurance cover would apply in respect of the main areas.
